SureFire Maximus Review, Demo of the Rechargeable Headlamp

SureFire just recently released their new rechargeable headlamp, the SureFire Maximus.  It’s a monster of a headlamp, with a 500 lumen, fully adjustable output that produces a very broad beam of light.

For our review, here are the full stats on the Surefire Maximus:

• fully adjustable brightness from 1 to 500 lumens
• high quality LED produces a smooth wide beam pattern
• large knurled dial to adjust brightness is easy to operate even with gloves
• powered by a high energy lithium-ion rechargeable battery
• runs from 1 to 70 hours depending on brightness level selected
• fuel gauge on the headlamp gives battery charge status
• SOS feature
• head rotates up and down 90 degrees to direct light output
• lightweight magnesium housing
• waterproof to 1 meter for 30 minutes (not dive rated)
• weighs 5.1 ounces with battery
• designed and assembled in USA

Overall, the Maximus headlamp is very well built (which is what you expect from a SureFire), and the adjustable brightness works very well – probably the smoothest adjustable brightness I’ve ever seen in a flashlight.  Compared to the Minimus headlamps, the dial is easier to turn on the Maximus, so you only have to use one hand to adjust the brightness instead of one to hold the head in place and one to adjust the brightness.  The rechargeable battery is covered for 2 years under SureFire’s warranty, and the headlamp itself is covered under SureFire’s limited lifetime warranty.
