Streamlight SL-20L Rechargeable Review

With Streamlight’s long history of making great rechargeable flashlights, I was excited to hear that they would be introducing a full-sized LED rechargeable light in the new SL20L.  When I actually saw one – wow, that light is bright!  Here is the run down:

350 lumens in high, 2 hour run time, 1607 ft beam distance
160 lumens medium, 4 hour run time, 1079 ft beam distance
10 lumens low, 50 hour run time, 206 ft beam distance

The switch is easy to use – just press and hold to scroll through the 3 brightness levels.  As with all of Streamlight’s LED rechargeables, click the switch twice fast for strobe. Streamlight made a nice update to the switch of this light.  It actually acts as a charging indicator now, with a steady red LED meaning the light is charging and a blinking red LED meaning charging is complete.

Another nice upgrade is the extra deep reflector.  It’s about 2.75″ long, and it helps the beam really travel (up to 1607 ft).  The beam gives off ample spill light in addition to the bright center hotspot.  It’s a little too bright for really up close work, but at about a foot away the amount of light is just fine.

The SL20L measures 13.1″ long and weighs 1.7 lbs with the NiMH battery, so it is definitely a sizable light (not a pocket light haha).  The large size of this light coupled with the disorienting strobe means the SL-20L can actually help with self defense.  Plus the large size means you get more brightness and longer run times, so it’s a fair trade off.

All in all, the Streamlight SL-20L is a very impressive light.  It truly is the improved full-size LED rechargeable you have been waiting for.
