New Safety Approvals for Pelican 2690 LED HeadsUP Headlamp

Pelican just acquired some new safety approvals for its 2690 LED HeadsUP Lite headlamp.  The 2690 now has Group I approval for use in underground mines, certified by both ATEX and IECEx.  This rating means that the headlamp is suitable for use in both the underground parts of the mine as well as those parts of surface installations of such mines endangered by firedamp and/or coal dust clouds.  The Group I approval added to the 2690 is “I M1 Ex ia I Ma.”

These new ATEX and IECEx safety approvals are generally required for mining work outside of the United States and Canada.  Pelican is also pursuing MSHA approvals for mining applications inside the US, as well as pursuing mining certifications for other flashlights and headlamps in their product line.
