Streamlight ProTac HL 3 Flashlight Review

Handheld lighting manufacturer Streamlight has just introduced a new high lumen flashlight to their ProTac series – the Streamlight ProTac HL 3 flashlight.  The ProTac HL 3 builds on the popular design of the Streamlight ProTac HL flashlight that debuted in 2012.  The Streamlight ProTac HL 3 is one of the brightest flashlights in the Streamlight brand, producing a whopping 1,100 lumens.  Here’s a quick look at the performance specifications:

Streamlight ProTac HL 3 FlashlightStreamlight ProTac HL 3 Flashlight

Output: 1,100 lumens high, 35 lumens low
Run time: 1.5 hours high, 36 hours low
Beam distance: 1,243 feet (379 meters)
Battery type: 3 x CR123 lithium (non-rechargeable)
Length: 7.1″ long
MSRP: $155.00

The Streamlight ProTac HL 3 flashlight is very impressive.  By adding one extra battery, you get 83% more lumens and a longer run time than the original ProTac HL.  The 1.5″ size difference from the original ProTac HL isn’t all that noticeable because the body diameter stayed the same.  The Streamlight ProTac HL 3 definitely has a solid construction, consistent with the rest of Streamlight’s ProTac line of flashlights.  It’s IPX7 rated for waterproofing, meaning that it’s waterproof in up to 1 meter of water for 30 minutes.

We really like the TEN-TAP programming, which allows you to re-program the order of the brightness levels.  If you need access to all the brightness levels (high/strobe/low), keep the ProTac HL 3 in the default setting.  If you don’t want to mess around with low or strobe mode, program it to the “high only” setting.  Or if you plan on using the flashlight in low most of the time, program it to the “low/high” setting, where low will always come on first.  Take a look at our video review below for a demonstration on how to use the TEN-TAP programming.
